Sponsors of Forth Mountain Trail Run

Forth Mountain Trail Run is coming back in 2023. Mark the 25th of March as the date in your diary. The trails on the mountain have been developed even further since the last race and we hope take advantage of that to give you an even more enjoyable race experience. Register here.

Forth Mountain Trail Run is a charity run, in aid of Barntown National School,  over 13 kilometres of the Three Rocks Trail on Forth Mountain, just outside Wexford Town.

The terrain is made of road, well maintained gravel trail and short sections of forestry road. A family orientated walking event will also be held on the day.

This is undoubtedly the most scenic race in the south-east. To the north you can see the entirety of north Wexford, the Blackstairs Mountains, as far as Lugnaquilla in the Wicklow Mountains. To the south you can view the Saltee Islands, Hook Lighthouse, Rosslare Harbour, Kilmore Quay and Tuskar Rock Lighthouse.

Road sections will not be closed during the race and participants must take care with traffic.

Most of the trail is well maintain gravel, however some sections of forest trail may have uneven ground with trip hazards. It is the responsibility of the participant to take measures for their own safety. There are also steep hill sections of the race. Take great care on these sections.

The route is an out-and-back route. You will encounter runners going in the opposite direction. We ask all participants to stay on the left hand side of the trail and be aware of their surroundings. For your own safety please do not wear headphones.

Route

Beginning at Barntown School, the race takes you up to the 1798 Battle Site Carpark, here runners transition to trail running and meet a steep 400m hill. This is most of the hard work done after two kilometers. Next you pass by the quarry carpark (5k walkers can loop the quarry and head back for school). The first water station will be located here. Another kilometre on the road and you hit the trail again. This section leads you past Drooping Rock where the views of North Wexford are amazing.

You will reach Pennylands Car Park next and pass the second Water Station. From here you will cross the road and run the Fairy Trail past the Furlong Homestead and Skeeter Rock, where you will be treated to views of the South Wexford Coastline.

From here you will turn around and return to the finish, this time looping around the Quarry at Carrigfoyle on the North side of the quarry and back to the school. Check out the route map and plotaroute below.

Parking

Parking spaces will be available at the church carpark. This will only be accessible from the N25. Further parking will available be at Barntown Community Centre. Please do not park on the N25 or in dangerous locations. It will also be possible to park at Carrigfoyle Quarry and jog down the trail to the race start point. Approx 2km. Please take care to obey all stewards' directions on the day and leave plenty of time before the race commences.

The school has bicycle sheds for those who wish to cycle to the race.
